Alpacas...

 

Life span -  15 to 20 years

Gestation - 11 - 12 months

Birth Weight - 6 - 8 kg

Babies - called "Crias"

Size - Grow to about 1 metre (at the shoulder)

Weigh - up to 70 kg

 

Alpacas are part of the Camalid family which includes, Llamas, Camels also Guanaco's & Vicunas.

 

There are 2 breeds of Alpacas, Huacaya & Suri.

At Mandala Alpacas we breed both types in all the wonderful colours that nature has provided.

 

Herd Guards - Alpacas are brilliant herd guards, whether it's protecting newly born lambs or kids, or looking after your free ranging chicken flock.  A few Alpacas in the paddock will help keep those pesky foxes at bay.
